L Drill For QB’s

logo

This is another simple drill that works on your footwork in the pocket. As a QB you want to spend as much time as you can working on drills that focus on your drop and movement in the pocket. This L drill is a great example. You need to set up 3 cones 5 yards apart from each other. Put one cone down on a yard line and then put another cone 5 yards to the right. Put your last cone 5 yards directly behind the original cone.  This should form a L shape. Start off by standing behind the original cone and take a 3 step drop. Then slide up to the cone that is to the right of the original cone. From there lead with your foot that is under your back shoulder and head towards the original cone. In summary, it should look like this: 3 step drop, slide, and lead with your backfoot back to the original cone. To make this drill more challenging, once you get back to the original cone you can sprint out as if you were escaping from the rush. This adds another element that you are likely to use in a game.

Points of emphasis: Keeping two hands on the ball, footwork is tight and clean, always staying balanced in a passing position, head always downfield, be quick but don’t hurry. KNOW the difference!
