Here is a foot warm up I make my QB’s do at the beginning of every individual session. I make them do this even before they throw a football. I developed this with the help of Blaine Bennett who is the head football coach at Central Washington University and he was the QB coach at Purdue University for many years. He is truly a QB guru and a great guy to learn from. The workout is quick and should take 3-5 minutes. As soon as the QB’s get to you, put them on a yardline. Have them stand on the line with their feet going across it. You say go and the QB’s will stretch out with the back leg and then cross over with their front leg. They will keep doing this until they get to the hash marks. Have them do the same thing coming back. The next one is where I have the QB’s stretch for distance when reaching out with their back foot. Have them do that down and back. The very last one is the same thing except you are making your distance extremely short and your feet are working as fast as they can while reaching and crossing over. Have them go down and back. This gets their blood flowing and works on the drive and cross over steps which apply to a 3 and 5 step drop. You are really killing 2 birds with one stone.
Points of emphasis: Head up facing downfield, carriage of the ball is chest to chest, drop straight down the line and don’t veer off to one side or the other, make sure hip and shoulder are pointed straight down the line at all times.
